Cordia Harrington is the founder, CEO, and president of the Tennessee Bun Company and is nicknamed "The Bun Lady." She originally bought a McDonald's franchise in Illinois, and purchased a Greyhound bus franchise and changed its routes to run past the restaurant. She then joined the restaurant’s corporate bun committee, and eventually became their bun supplier.〔 At that point she sold her franchises, emptied her bank accounts and borrowed $13.5 million to create Tennessee Bun Company in 1996.〔 She launched a spin-off trucking business in 1999 called Bun Lady Transport. That year she also opened Nashville Bun Company, a producer of English muffins for McDonald’s, Sheetz, Perkins, and others. In 2005 she added a Hearth line to Nashville Bun Company to supply McDonald’s and O’Charley’s and purchased the Cold Storage of Nashville freezer facility.〔 The newest part of the her business is the CornerStone Baking Company, founded in 2007, which produces frozen dough pieces for several casual dining restaurants.〔 She was featured on the CBS Early Show, ABC’s Money Matters, NPR’s Motley Fool and NBC Nightly News, all in 2005.〔 She was named number 16 of the 25 Top Women Business Builders by FAST Company.〔 She was also named Woman Business Owner of the Year in 2000 by the National Association of Women Business Owners, and named number 16 in FAST Company magazine’s Fastest Growing Woman-Owned Business list in 2004.〔 In 2007, she was named as Executive of the Year at the Excellence in Manufacturing Awards, and that same year she was named Chi Omega’s Malinda Jolley Mortin Woman of Achievement.〔 The Bun Companies were also named in the 2007 list of the “Top 100 WBEs Impacting Supplier Diversity,” and that same year Nashville Bun Company was honored by a visit from then-President George W.
